About Jack
Jack Thorp is the District Attorney for District 27, which is comprised of Adair, Cherokee, Sequoyah, and Wagoner Counties. Thorp grew up in Catoosa, Oklahoma, following high school graduation he served in the United States Navy from 1988-1992 serving aboard the U.S.S. Doyle (FFG-39). During his enlistment, Thorp received special commendations from Commander Naval Surface Forces, Atlantic and Commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group 12. Following his enlistment and honorable discharge, Thorp attended the University of the Ozarks where he graduated Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor in Science Degree. Thorp was then accepted and did attend and graduate with a Juris Doctorate from the University of Arkansas in 1999.
Upon law school graduation, Thorp was appointed as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the Fifth District in Arkansas from 1999-2005. Thorp specialized in drug crimes, drug asset forfeiture, and violent crimes. Thorp returned to Oklahoma in December 2005, as an Assistant District Attorney for Tulsa County in January 2006. Within two months Thorp was trying and winning noteworthy jury trials which included Murder, Rape, Robbery, Shooting with the Intent to Kill, and major crimes involving firearms. During this time he was also responsible for prosecuting crimes against children. Thorp, after being appointed Team Captain, supervised prosecutors assigned to the Felony Division. While with the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office, Jack received the prestigious, "Top Gun" award for the years of 2006, 2008, 2009, and 2010.
In January 2011, Jack accepted appointment as First Assistant District Attorney for District 27. During his time in District 27, Jack has managed as many as 63 employees in four counties, while juggling a multi-million dollar budget and has demonstrated imaginative personnel decisions in a time of consistent budget cuts. During this time, Jack has continued his exemplary litigation track record, and has tried some of the biggest murder cases in recent District 27 history. On October 2, 2017, The Governor appointed Jack Thorp to the position of District Attorney for District 27.
Thus far in Jack’s career he has tried 102 felony jury trials, including 42 murder cases. In 2020, Jack was awarded the David L. Moss Award as Oklahoma's District Attorney of the Year. Thorp also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Law at Northeastern State University.
Jack is married to Joy Thorp, Senior Deputy Attorney General managing the Criminal Justice Division for Oklahoma Attorney General John O'Connor.
